Fresh off his son Warrior’s Rest landing Saturday’s G1 Golden Horse Sprint, Drakenstein Stud’s bang inform stallion What A Winter enjoyed yet more feature race success when his daughter Hello Winter Hello won the Listed Cordocelli Olympic Duel Stakes at Kenilworth on Tuesday afternoon.
The three-year-old filly, trained by Adam Marcus, made it three wins from just six starts by powering home to land the 2020 Olympic Duel Stakes by a length and a half.
Bred by the Favour Stud, Hello Winter Hello (one of two runners in the Olympic Duel Stakes for What A Winter) was making her first start since March on Tuesday.
Out of the Dominion Royale mare I’m Like Hello, Hello Winter Hello is bred on the same What A Winter/Dominion Royale cross as R3.538 million plus earner Dutch Philip.
Her sire What A Winter, South Africa’s Leading First Crop Sire of 2016-2017, has had an excellent season in 2019-2020.
The triple Equus Champion, and four time G1 winner, is currently fourth on South Africa’s General Sires List with his progeny having already banked over R9.078 million this season.
His seven black type winners this season thus far are headed by the G1 winners Clouds Unfold, Russet Air and Warrior’s Rest, while another son of What A Winter, No Laying Up, showed his feature race potential when finishing third in Saturday’s G1 Golden Horse Medallion.
What A Winter has 26 lots on offer at the upcoming Emperors Palace National Yearling Sale.
